3 Ways to Purify Your Drinking Water

Waterborne diseases cause thousands of deaths every year, and because of this, water purification in homes is becoming more necessary and urgent. While the relevant bodies may be doing their best to ensure that your household accesses clean water, you also must conscious effort. Purifying your water before you use it will ensure that your family is out of harm’s way. There are different methods that you can use to purify your water.

Each method has its advantages, and you can use one or two of them. Different techniques also serve different purposes. For instance, chlorine removal and filtering are suitable for removing primary sediments. On the other hand, reverse osmosis and distillation remove various residues and contaminants. Here are some of the processes that you can use to purify your water.

1. Boiling

This is the cheapest and most accessible purification system. Your water sources or distribution channels might make your water unsafe as it passes through. For instance, if they are contaminated with parasites and germs, these could get into your water and have adverse health implications.

To purify your water from the water service in Las Vegas, bring it to a boil and let it continue boiling for 1 to 3 minutes. If you live at a high altitude, it’s best to let your water boil longer than people who live in lower altitudes. Once your water is ready, cover it and leave it to cool.

2. Filtration

Filtration is an effective way of purifying water, and when you use the correct filters, it will effectively remove different compounds from your water. Filtration uses physical and chemical processes to make your drinking water safe. This method gets rid of small and large particles as well as hazardous contaminants.

It is among the most effective and healthy methods because it does not deplete all the mineral salts present in your water. When compared to reverse osmosis, it is more efficient in selectively removing small compounds such as pesticides. Lastly, this method is less costly, and it is energy-efficient.

3. Distillation

This technique uses heat to collect pure water as vapor. It is effective because, scientifically, water has a lower boiling point than most contaminants and elements inside it. Contaminants that cannot be seen by the bare eye, such as heavy metals, germs, and bacteria, are not uncommon. The most efficient way to rid your water of them is through distillation.

In this process, water is heated and directed into a condenser so that it can cool. Once cooled, the vapor reverses back into liquid water and is safe and clean for drinking. Sediments and other substances with higher boiling points are left inside the container. This method is ideal if you mainly access untreated raw water.

Water purification is essential if you want your family to access clean water continually. There are other purification processes, too, including chlorination and reverse osmosis. This article will help you pick the method that best suits your needs.
